American Airlines is advising travelers to arrive at the airport three to three and a half hours prior to flight time when flying into the U.S. from a non-U.S. airport. This is to allow for lengthier check-in, security screening, and boarding processes. See the recommendation on AA.com.

BrockComm Travel is giving travelers a little extra incentive to get out and celebrate this New Year’s Eve: $25 Planet Hollywood gift certificates with every Las Vegas package booked. The certificates can be used at Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino or at Planet Hollywood restaurants.

“For most, 2009 has been a year of belt-tightening,” said agency owner Catherine Brock. “Why not celebrate the year-end with a bang – especially since a New Year’s trip to Las Vegas is as affordable as it’s ever been.”

Casino hotels and clubs up and down the Las Vegas Strip (http://www.thecenterofthestrip.com)  have special New Year’s Eve calendars, with festivities ranging from the black-tie “Notorious 2010” event at The Mirage to the more casual “New Year's Eve at Carnaval Court” at Harrah’s. Several properties, including Monte Carlo, Aria, MGM Grand and Rio, will have multiple New Year’s Eve parties running concurrently. Vegas visitors may even experience a few star sightings: featured New Year’s Eve party guests include 50 Cent at Pure Nightclub, The Black Eyed Peas at LAX Nightclub, Nicole Richie at Lavo, and Eva Longoria at Eve in CityCenter.

CruiseCritic.com reports that two groups of cruise passengers were robbed at gunpoint during ship-sponsored Segway tours in the Bahamas' Earth Village. The passengers were traveling aboard Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas and Disney Cruise Line's Disney Wonder.

No one was injured in the hold-up, although the tour guides were bound by the robbers. Passengers were forced to hand over their money, cell phones, passports and other items.

Both cruise lines have since cancelled this tour.

According to the Wall Street Journal, pilots of All Nippon Airways (ANA) may stage a one-day strike on Wednesday of this week. If the union decides to go ahead with the strike, the incident could impact schedules for roughly one-fifth of the ANA's domestic flights. About 140 domestic flights could be canceled and another 33 flights may be delayed. International flights are not expected to be impacted.

A cabin crew strike planned for November 10 and 11 is forcing Iberia to cancel certain flights. According to an information release from Iberia:

Iberia code series flights IB5000, IB8000 and IB7000, operated by Vueling, Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum and other airlines using Iberia codes, will NOT be affected. Flights to and from the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands will also operate normally, as will almost all Iberia’s long-haul flights.

Iberia will provide full refunds for passengers traveling on November 10 and 11 (whether or not their flight is affected), as long as the refund is requested prior to November 30. Date change requests received prior to November 30 will also be honored, provided the new dates occur before March 31, 2010.
